Title: Minstrels: For Benefit of St. John's Choir
Creator/Author: Jones, Minnie, Jessie Jones, and Edna Jones Description: Minstrel Show Program Abstract: Minstrel shows were a popular form of entertainment during the nineteenth century, beginning around 1820 in the United States. The shows changed throughout the course of the century, as whites in blackface were often replaced by African-American entertainers after the Civil War. After 1900 minstrelsy evolved into vaudeville and burlesque, but remained popular at the amateur level until the early 1950's.
