Many of these emerging community leaders-and the 101 program alumni from 1991-1995-already are well estab- lished as volunteers, mentors and officers of community organi- zations. If your organization needs enthusiastic, experienced leaders, contact an alumnus of Leadership Worthington through the alumni phone directory on pages 21-22, or by contacting Executive Director Judy Barnhart for a referral. Encouraged to join Leadership Worthington alumni and class members for a day of volunteer work, students and adults from service clubs and corporations pool their resources to clean and paint, assist elderly residents with household chores and errands, pick up trash, and tackle a variety of tasks to beautify the community and serve those in need. Volunteers collect pledges from family members, friends and co-workers. Both activities advance the mission of Leadership Worthington (above), set by its founding board of trustees in fall 1989, when the program was launched as a continued [Photograph] Adults and students team up as volunteers in the annual Leadership Worthington Service Day. 3 Leadership Worthington 1996 Alumni Directory cooperative venture of the Worthington Schools/Business/Community Partnership and the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce. Here four 1995 Leadership Worthington graduates [Photograph] promote the senior health fair they planned as their class project. This year's class projects are detailed on pages 16 and 17. Class Projects: Legacies of Leadership As part of their Leadership Worthington experience, program participants develop group projects which directly benefit the community. Leaving lasting legacies, many develop informative publications, examine community problems, or launch on going programs. Leadership Worthington Service Day began as a class project and has continued as a tradition of leadership. Another ongoing project developed by class members is the annual Leadership for a Lifetime Awards program, in its third year. With the sponsorship of Leadership Worthington, the Worthington community annually recognizes two adults, a senior high student, a middle school student and an elementary school student for exemplary community, school and organizational leadership. Awards are conferred at Leadership Worthington's Service Day. Each honoree's name is engraved in a brick which paves the walkway to Worthington's Municipal Building, giving lasting recognition to special individuals who are committed to a lifetime of leadership.\ You, Too, Can Make a Difference. Here's How: You can be one of the people who "make a difference," by: * participating in a Leadership Worthington class; * sponsoring a candidate; * providing in-kind services, or lending facilities for a class session; * making a donation; or * participating in Service Day.
