Title: Bicentennial Program: Thomas Worthington High School and Worthington Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
Creator/Author: Worthington Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution
Description: Program for Time Capsule and Tree Dedication
Abstract: This is a program for a ceremony held at Worthington's Bicentennial Homecoming Celebration July 5, 2003. A time capsule, which had been buried by the Bicentennial Charter Oak in 1977, was dug up and a new tree donated by the Worthington Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) planted. The first Worthington "Charter Oak" was a gift to Worthington Schools in celebration of the nation's Bicentennial in 1976. It had been planted on the front lawn of Worthington High School, but vandalized within a year. Worthington High School students raised funds to replace the Bicentennial Charter Oak, which was rededicated in May, 1977 and the time capsule buried near it the same day. This program includes a story of the significance of the original Charter Oak in Connecticut.
