she died Tuesday, February 18, 2025. her recorded age was 44.
Jensine Johanna Garcia Ahrens, 44, of Columbus, Ohio passed into the presence of Jesus on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Born May 16,1980, Jensine was the first of three children born to Gene Garcia and Audrey (Sanchez) Garcia. Jensine grew up in Belen, New Mexico. In her later teenage years, she and her family served in various ministry roles in Russia (at an orphanage), Mexico, Oklahoma City, and eventually Oak Brook, Illinois. Jensine met her husband, Luke Ahrens, while serving in the mailroom at the Institute in Basic Life Principles. Shortly after the couple met in 1999, Jensine’s parents moved her family to Marengo, Illinois. Luke and Jensine were married in May 2001. Jensine is a woman full of life and passion. On Earth, she loved Jesus and she loved people. There was never a dull day around her. Her interests included flowers, nature, music (including teaching piano), health and nutrition, travel, and anything that included meeting new and old friends–she never met a stranger! In 2010 after Luke finished seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and training at Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago, Jensine and Luke moved to Columbus, Ohio to plant a new church–now known as Vertical Church. Jensine played a critical role in developing a culture of grace and connection within the new church family. Jensine led the Women’s ministry which hosted a Christmas Brunch every December; the heart behind the brunch was to invite people to come to know about the love, grace, and truth of Jesus Christ. Jensine was used by God to lead multiple friends to find salvation in a personal relationship with Jesus–and to disciple many, many others in whole-heartedly following Jesus. Jensine’s personal relationship with Jesus affected every aspect of her life. Her commitment to the Bible as God’s Word and to prayer were the unwavering anchors of her life. This became especially evident as she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in Spring 2021–then five months later, she discovered that the cancer had spread to her brain. Though confronted with an overwhelming trial, her faith in her Savior Jesus Christ grew stronger, trusting in his plan for her life regardless of the outcome of the cancer battle. Jensine fought cancer relentlessly–both at The James Cancer Treatment Center at Ohio State and traveling to Phoenix, Arizona for treatment at two specialty clinics. The prayers of many, many people carried her and her family. Her life expectancy was roughly eighteen months–by God’s grace she outlived that by more than two additional years. Her faith never wavered; in life and in death, she trusted God completely. Family was the great joy of Jensine’s life. God gave her and Luke four children on earth (and few more in heaven via multiple miscarriages). Isaiah was born in 2003, followed by Elijah in 2004. Following a difficult miscarriage in 2009, God blessed her with Micah in 2010. Finally, God blessed her with a daughter, Tirzah, in 2014. Jensine was devoted to teaching her children at home, via Classical Conversations. Jensine’s children are her trophies and the beautiful legacy of her life. Her energy to serve and invest in her husband and children was boundless. Her prayers for her family will guide and bless them for years to come. Jensine is survived by her loving and grateful family–her husband, Luke Ahrens; her children, Isaiah Ahrens, Elijah Ahrens, Micah Ahrens, and Tirzah Ahrens; her parents, Gene and Audrey (Sanchez) Garcia of Marengo, Illinois; her brothers Silas Garcia (wife Jordan and daughter Graylee) of Osceola, Missouri and Amiel Garcia of West Hollywood, California. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27th, 2025, from 4-8PM at Vertical Church, 1290 Old Henderson Road, Columbus, Ohio, 43220. After greeting the family, you will be invited to record a video about your relationship with Jensine in one of four booths in order to share fun and/or meaningful stories about Jensine’s life–the family will treasure these stories–and hope to someday share them with Jensine’s grandchildren, so they can know their amazing grandmother! A public Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 28th, 2025, at 10AM, again at Vertical Church, 1290 Old Henderson Road, Columbus, Ohio, 43220. After the Celebration of Life, there will be a private burial service for the family.
