Title: Preparation of Historic Photographs and Documents for Scanning

Location: Old Worthington Library (820 High Street, Worthington)

Immediate Supervisor: Susan Allen, Digital Library Leader, Worthington Libraries

Volunteer Coordinator: Janet Ingraham Dwyer, Outreach Services & Volunteer Coordinator, Worthington Libraries

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteers will prepare historic photographs and documents for scanning. This involves recording descriptive information about original sources onto image production records, identifying items in need of basic conservation, and placing documents into archival storage containers.

POSITION REQUIRES:
  • an interest in local history
  • the ability to exercise care in handling rare and fragile archival materials
  • the ability to recognize and identify the need for basic conservation procedures (metal removal, paper flattening)
  • the ability to place photographs and documents into archival storage containers
  • attention to detail and the ability to follow guidelines for recording information about original source materials
  • the ability to work independently
  • completion of training and orientation
An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of himself/herself or others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.
