Obituary

Chazatie Brook Carter, 40, of Columbus, Ohio, transitioned from labor to reward on November 10,2025. She was born in Marion, Ohio, on March 14,1985, to Alicia McGary and James Reid. Chazatie was studying for her degree in psychology. She worked at Empower Behavioral Health & Intervention as a behavior technician. Her unexpected passing comes as a shock to her family and friends. She lived an energetic and vibrant life. She had so much ahead of her. She was taken far too soon.

Chazatie started singing before she could walk, pouring her heart into every note. Whether singing at church or home, her voice brought joy to everyone in the room.  Chazatie will be remembered for how much fun she was to be around. Her magnetic personality drew people in. She loved her family fiercely. Church was her second home. She was an incredibly supportive friend, a devoted daughter/granddaughter, a loving sister, and a faithful servant who found her greatest joy in praise and fellowship. We will forever miss her warm and genuine presence.

Chazatie was preceded in death by her mother, Alicia McGary; grandfather, James Burks; uncle, Gerald McGary; and nephew, Cyncer McGary.

She is survived by her father, James Reid; siblings, Chaz McGary, Endia Reid, Jamie Reid, and Gabrielle Reid; grandmothers, W. Pearl Goodenow (Warren) and Brenda Smith; grandfather, Willie McGary; aunts, Barbara Reid-Dowe (Rodney), Nina Taylor, Tracey Reid, Niderrah Holley (Letisha), and Andrea Nunn (Janis); uncles, Troy Reid, Andre McGary, Dexter McGary, Ramondi McGary, and Zach McGary; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
