The First Methodist Mission in America
Basic details
Background
This is one of a series of informational cards created by the Linworth United Methodist Church and Historical Society on the history of the Wyandot Indians in Ohio. The card offers a brief history of the Wyandot Indian Mission Church in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, as well as describes the removal by the U.S. government of over 600 Wyandot Indians from their home in Upper Sandusky to a reservation in Kansas. As depicted in a painting by Hal Sherman, the principle chiefs of the group traveled through Columbus and stopped at the State House to meet with Governor Wilson Shannon.
