Obituary

Irving P. (Pop) Olmsted, Sr., died Wednesday, January 27, 1982, Whetstone Convalescent Center. He was born on November 27, 1887 in Ossining, New York. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the Canadian Army. On June 11, 1921 he married Nancy Sofia Hapgood, of Springfield, Massachusetts, who preceded him in death on March 4, 1974. Arriving in Columbus in 1931, Pop was always active with young people, especially those of North High School. Many friendships formed there and in other areas with young people gave him life long pleasure and comfort. He is survived by a son, William H., of Cleveland. Another son, Irving P. Jr. died in 1976. Pop has 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cynthia and Peter, of Worthington, Katharine and Judith of Cleveland and Polly, of Alabama. Also surviving are 2 great-grandchildren, Samuel and Laura. Friends may call at the Southwick Funeral Chapel, 3100 N. High Street, Thursday 7-9 p.m., where service will be held from the memorial chapel 2 p.m. Friday. Interment Walnut Grove Cemetery. Pastor David Ullery officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to the charity of your choice in memory of Pop.
