Background
Mary Ellen Minton stands next to a table displaying soil from the site of the Charter Oak in Hartford, Connecticut, soil from the from the Daughters of the American Revolution headquarters in Washington DC, and water from the Olentangy River. The soil and water were sprinkled at the base of the Bicentennial Charter Oak dedicated on May 26, 1976. The Charter Oak was a gift to Worthington Schools in honor of the United States Bicentennial. Mrs. Minton was the Bicentennial Chair for the Worthington Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
