Designs for Planting Beds in Downtown Worthington
Basic details
Background
These designs for planting beds along the sidewalks of High Street in downtown Worthington were created by Worthington Garden Club member and former Mayor Chester Hutchison. He served as planting coordinator for the effort to beautify the downtown area for several years during the 1970s. This planting design was created for the celebration of the nation's bicentennial in 1976. Seven local garden clubs were assigned a flower bed on the west side of High Street. Annuals were planted in the color of red (Salvia or Celosia), white (Alyssum), and blue (Ageratum). Flowers were funded by the Downtown Action Committee.
