Background

This black-and-white class picture shows students in Mrs. Ramey's third-grade class standing and seated on the steps of what was then Worthington School (now Kilbourne Middle School) in 1957. 

Mrs. Ramey, who may be Charlene Ramey, stands in the back row, far left. The only student identified in the photo is Nicolas Popa, standing in the middle row, far right, in the striped shirt. Popa walked to school from his home on West South Street. 

According to "Two Centuries of Educational History: Worthington, Ohio" by Jennie McCormick, the new Worthington School opened in the autumn of 1938 with six elementary and four junior high classrooms. After the construction of Colonial Hills, Evening Street, Wilson Hill and Worthington Estates elementary schools, the building became the ninth grade campus for Worthington High School. In 1993, the building was extensively renovated and reopened as Kilbourne Middle School.
