Jean Beckett, 88, of Columbus, passed away on April 16, 2023. She was born on September 6, 1934, in Dayton Ohio, to the late Maxwell and Mabel (Brunsman) Bowman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia O’Connor; granddaughter, Kelly Zimmerman; and son-in-law, Bob Plato.

Jean attended Heidelberg University and it was there that she met the love of her life, Donald. They had 68 wonderful years of marriage and raised 3 daughters. Jean was the devoted wife/mother who took care of everyone and ran the household. She had many talents including cooking, sewing, needlework, and gardening – especially her roses, She loved animals and enjoyed giving back to others, which led her to volunteer for a variety of organizations over the years; she especially enjoyed working with children in Sunday school, VBS, and Camp Fire Girls. Jean also had a love of dolls. After raising her daughters, Jean followed that passion by opening Beckett’s Doll House, which she ran for 13 years.

Jean will be greatly missed by her husband, Donald Beckett; children, Cindy Plato Falter (Tony Falter), Katherine Beckett, and Karen (Carl) Zimmerman; grandchildren, Brian (Ali) Plato, Lori (Eric) Lopez, and Kristen Zimmerman; great-grandchildren, Sadie and Maevry Plato and Christina and Eric Lopez. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 10AM until 11AM, at Worthington Presbyterian Church, 773 North High St., Worthington OH, 43085. A Funeral Service will follow at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s name may be made to the Worthington Presbyterian Church general fund.
