Dorothy Butterfield, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother (Gigi) died peacefully at St. Ann's Hospital on August 6, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband C. Charles Butterfield and sister Esther Frepan. She will be greatly missed by her children, Charlotte (Alan) Armstrong of Darien, CT., and John (Mary) Butterfield of Worthington; grandchildren, Doug (Laura) Armstrong, Bryan Armstrong, Todd Armstrong, Jennifer (Jeff) Silliman and Alyson Butterfield; great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Ryan, Holden and Harrison Armstrong and Noah Silliman; and sister Helen Hannigan of Crete, Il., Born in South Bend, Indiana on June 2, 1913, she and her husband who were married for 50 years, lived in 19 cities throughout the country, residing in 26 homes, due to his position as a store manager with the W.T. Grant Company. The couple retired in Warren, Ohio where they were members of the Tod Avenue Methodist Church. She served as president of United Methodist Women and worked on many church boards and committees. She was a teacher's aide at Fairhaven School for Mentally Retarded Children and served o the Board of Trustees of the Rebecca Williams Community Center. Throughout her life she was devoted to nurturing children and volunteered as a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader, Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school teacher. In June 2002 she moved to Worthington Christian Village in Columbus, Ohio. Her contagious smile, energy, love of life, positive outlook and friendliness will be missed by everyone who knew her. She touched many lives with her good works, love and kindness. Donations to the charity of your choice may be made in her memory. A private memorial service was held at the Worthington Christian Village. Interment at Flint Cemetery will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Schoedinger Worthington Chapel.
