John Robert Hawk, age 76, of Columbus, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 28, 2019. Born October 17, 1942 in Columbus to the late Grover and Betty (Hutton) Hawk. He was a 1960 graduate of Columbus North High School. In 1961 he joined the United States Army, trained in Kentucky and was shipped to Binlach, Germany where he spent three years in a special operations secret extraction unit of the border patrol, "I was honored to have been a soldier for the United States of America." John returned to the US in 1964 and was recruited into the Columbus police department due to his military background. John had a very outgoing personality and people loved to hear his many stories. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 14 years Cara (Leone) Hawk, Daughter Julie (Rob) Longwell, Daughter Jill (Dave) Grumney. Grandchildren Brittnee (Taylor) Blom, Lexee (Phil) Bouman, Keaton and Camden Cornell, Michael (Emily) Grumney, Brandon Grumney, Jared Grumney and Allison Grumney. Great Grandsons Ezra and Bravery Blom. Stepchildren Mike (Anne) Carpenter, Robert (Kristen) Carpenter, Amy Kirk. Step-Grand Children Eve, Gwenyth, and Isaac Carpenter, Hayden and Gabriel Palmer and Reid and Layna Carpenter, Cara and Jonathan Kirk; and his little buddy, Scamp. The family extends a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Kobacker House, and to all our family and friends for the prayers, love and support.
