Rate Andrew Howell, age 99, of Charlotte, NC, died August 24, 2021. He was born on September 26, 1922 in Iowa City, IA to the late Lloyd and Henrietta Howell. He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Stivers (Michael) and Jennifer Howell, and granddaughter Cameryn Stivers. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Menkel Howell who passed away in 2001, and his parents. Rate attended the University of Iowa for both undergraduate and law school and was a Hawkeye through and through. He spent nine summers working for the Yellowstone Park Company while completing his studies. After passing the bar, Rate went on to become a business law professor at The Ohio State University and authored numerous business law textbooks which were used at the collegiate level. He met his wife, Carolyn, while singing in the church choir at Indianola Presbyterian Church. He was an accomplished and prolific painter of oil paintings many of which focused on his beloved Wyoming. Rate will forever be remembered for his quick wit and easy smile. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
