Jane Longfellow died on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born March 15, 1928 in Winston-Salem, NC to Jesse B. and Mary Reece Glenn. She graduated from Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) in 1949 with a BS degree in Secretarial Administration and Business Education. Jane married Howard Longfellow on March 1, 1952 at Centenary United Methodist Church, Winston-Salem. After a short time in San Luis Obispo, CA, they lived in Winston-Salem until 1959 when they moved to Reynoldsburg, OH and in 1965 to Columbus, near Worthington, where they have lived since. Jane was active in the Worthington United Methodist Church where she led or served on many boards and committees and in the Women’s Society. She was a part of the Riverside Hospital Sewing Guild for 40 years.
Jane is survived by her husband of 66 years, Howard Longfellow; daughter Mary (Bennie) Mitchell and son David (Virginia) Longfellow; four grandchildren, Sarah Mitchell, Ryan (Jennifer) Mitchell, Katharine (Trevon) Noiva, and Kimberly Longfellow; and one great-grandchild, Marisol Mitchell. Jane is predeceased by her parents and brother, Richard R. Glenn.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 3 pm with calling hours at 2 pm at the Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High St, Worthington, 43085. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Worthington U.M. Church. The family is most grateful to the Wesley Glen Retirement Center and Wesley Hospice for their loving care through Jane’s last days.
