McFarland Allan B. McFarland, a.k.a. "Big Al," age 87, of Worthington, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 4, 1927 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Frank and Eustasia McFarland. He is survived by Barbara J. McFarland, loving wife of 61 years; daughter, Lisa (Robert) Kennedy; son, Scott (Patricia) McFarland; son, Todd (Nancy) McFarland; grandchildren, Mariel (Aaron) Farver, Rachel, Ryan, Anna Grace, Trent and Ethan McFarland; great grandchildren, Kaleb and Ariana Farver. Al was a graduate of West High School and Ohio State University. He served in World War II. He began his career with State Savings in 1951, elected president in 1970 and worked until he retired in June 1997. State Savings was one of the first innovators of the "Variable Rate Mortgage." Al was a wonderful mentor to many employees at the bank. He was honest, fair, a firm negotiator and always led by example. A longtime member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church, Al was a former president of the MidOhio League and member of "I Know I Can" in central Ohio. He was a member of the Ohio State University Presidents Club; and a former member of the University, Athletic, Ocean Reef and Worthington Hills Country Club. He was active in Kiwanis, Worthington Jay C's, and the Worthington Cardinal Boosters, as well as the Little League Commissioner. He also served as a board member of Children's Hospital, Otterbein College and Motorists Mutual Insurance Company. Al enjoyed watching all sports: especially boxing. He sponsored or coached teams for football, basketball, baseball and softball. He loved attending his children and grandchildren's activities: swimming, soccer, basketball, baseball, track, dance and or music. He loved the Cincinnati Red's was a longtime booster of Ohio State football and basketball. A celebration of life memorial service is being held at Worthington Presbyterian Church, 773 High Street, Worthington, Ohio, 43085 on Saturday, November 1st, 2014 at 11:30 am. Funeral arrangements are being made by RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Marburn Academy, Bldg. Fund.
