SHIPMAN Morgan Enlow Shipman, of Worthington, died unexpectedly on December 4, 2008, at Dublin Methodist Hospital. He was 75. Born and raised in the small west Texas town of Seminole, the fourth of five children, Morgan earned his bachelors and law degrees from the University of Texas. He practiced as an associate with the law firm of Covington and Burling in Washington, D.C., from 1958-1963 and again from 1968-1969. He served as Special Counsel in the Office of Program Planning of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission from 1963-1965 and was an Assistant Professor at Harvard Law School from 1965-1968. For more than 35 years, Morgan was an acclaimed law professor at the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University, where he was named the school's "Outstanding Professor" of the year on five different occasions. In 2004, former students created a scholarship at the college in his honor. From 1980 to 1997, Morgan served part-time Of Counsel to the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease in Columbus. Morgan was widowed in 1982 by his wife, Christie Armstrong. He is survived and missed greatly by two daughters, Claire and Susannah; three grandchildren, Hugo, Dashiell and Della; and his beloved longtime companion, Jill Ensminger. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High Street, Worthington, OH, where family will receive friends one hour prior to service. There will also be a memorial service at 4 p.m. the same day, at the Moritz College of Law, Saxbe Auditorium, 55 W. 12th Avenue, Columbus, OH, followed immediately by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to go to the Morgan Shipman Scholarship Fund.
