Wiles Frederick J. "Fred" Wiles, age 82, passed into heaven on July 8, 2013. He was born in Dayton, OH and later moved to Indianapolis, IN. where he graduated from Washington High School. He later graduated from The Ohio State University College of Engineering in 1955, where he was an Army ROTC cadet and earned the distinguished Scabbard and Blade award. He was also a member of Alpha Sigma Theta fraternity. During his college years he met and courted Eloise Martin, spending lots of fun times in the college class at Indianola Church of Christ, where they were married on December 28, 1954. After Fred's graduation the young couple headed to Fort Knox Engineer Battalion for two years. They returned to Columbus and set up house on the east side to be closer to Western Electric/AT&T where he was employed for 35 years. They moved back to the north side after Fred's 1993 retirement. He was actively involved with his children: chaperoning Girls Scout activities, teaching VBS/Sunday School, transporting kids to music lessons, presiding as president of PTA, serving as Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 482 and Explorer Advisor for Post 891. During his thirty plus years of service Fred earned many accolades for his work including the Silver Beaver Award in Scouting. His interests included Toastmasters, Bridge, bird-watching, gardening, stamp and coin collecting, singing in the church choir, 35 years of volunteering at Worthington Christian Village and "Driving Miss Daisy". He is survived by Eloise, his beloved wife of 58 years; children, Michelle (Fred) Waggoner, Deborah Wiles, Cynthia (Rick) Michelhaugh, Edward (Midge) Wiles; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brother, Ralph (Barbara) Clark; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 11 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, OH. A funeral service will take place on Friday, July 12 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, Glenn Wheeler, retired minister Mike Richardson, minister at Indianola Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Flint Union Cemetery Worthington. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Worthington Christian Village, 165 High Bluffs Blvd., Columbus, Ohio 43235 in memory of Fred Wiles.
