Joanne Stallsmith Ballinger, 91, formerly of Columbus, passed away October 13, 2019 at Wright House Memory Care in Mequon, Wisconsin. Born July 30, 1928 to Helen and Joe Stallsmith, she was a graduate of Columbus North High School and The Ohio State University. While a student at OSU, she held leadership positions in The Kappa Phi Club, a Christian women’s organization, and was active in the Wesley Foundation. Joanne studied early education at OSU and began her teaching career in the Columbus area. She then worked as a substitute teacher in northeastern Ohio and returned to full-time teaching later in the Centerville School District. After her retirement from education, Joanne owned and operated a Canadian fishing resort in Ontario, Canada with her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church wherever she resided, including churches in Columbus, Perry, South Euclid, Centerville, and Hilliard, and was always active in the women’s ministries in those churches. Joanne was a proud member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association and past member of North High’s Women’s Alumnae Association. Above all, she found joy in helping others and in spending time with family and friends. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Ballinger. She is survived by her children, David (Laura) Ballinger of Bozeman, Montana, Barbara (Lou) Henneck of Mequon, Wisconsin, and Paul (Jennifer) Ballinger of Dublin; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and special friends.
