Virginia Elizabeth Bond was born on November 1, 1913 in Worthington, Ohio to J.E. Barker. Virginia was a graduate of the Ohio State University were she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While at Ohio State, she was a member of Pi Lambda Theta and Eta Sigma Phi sororities. Following graduation from Ohio State, she taught English at Center Village High School in Center Village, Ohio. On June 1, 1938 Virginia married Ralph Hurd Bond, who was also from Worthington, Ohio. At that time, Ralph was employed by the Soil Conversation Service and was stationed in Oklahoma. Virginia spent the next five years traveling across Oklahoma and Texas as Ralph was given various assignments in the region by the Soil Conversation Service. During this time, Virginia gave birth to two sons; Gerard, who was born in Altus Oklahoma on May 20, 1940, and Dwain, who was born on March 16, 1942 in Decatur, Texas. In 1943, Virginia and Ralph and their two sons returned to Columbus, Ohio where Virginia spent the next six years deeply involved with family and friends. And on March 13, 1947 Virginia gave birth to her third son, Wendell. In 1949, Ralph accepted a teaching position in the geology department at Texas Tech University. Once again, Virginia left Ohio, this time for Lubbock, Texas. Her stay in Lubbock was a brief however for it was there that she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Tragically, after a year of illness with this disease, Virginia died on August 10, 1950, at the age of 36 in Houston Texas. Virginia was a very devoted mother and wife. She left behind her husband, Ralph, and her three small sons, Gerard, Dwain, and Wendell. Virginia is deeply missed by them all.
