BOWEN A. Grant Bowen, CPA, age 81, of Columbus, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, March 2, 2012. Grant was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 18, 1930. Nothing was more important to Grant than his family, topping the list was Bonnie his bride of 59 years. Grant met Bonnie McDill when he was two and she was three, they were married on June 14, 1952. He was a proud North High Polar Bear and graduated in 1948. He was a graduate of Ohio State University in 1952. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta at Ohio State University and later served as Purple Legionnaire of the Ohio State Chapter. After he graduated from OSU he served as a Lt JG in the Navy on the USS Robinson DD 562. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal. He loved his family, his friends, his country, OSU, golf, tennis, college football, and March Madness. He never knew a stranger and was famous for asking anyone he ran in to "where did you go to high school?" He had an amazing career, always known for being a brilliant "numbers man." Grant started in Cleveland, Ohio with Arthur Young. The family moved back to Columbus where he was a Partner at Haskins & Sells (Deloitte) for 16 years. He joined Rax Roast Beef as the CFO, Vice Chairman of the Board. After retirement, Grant continued to consult numerous businesses in Central Ohio. Grant served on the boards of WW Williams, State Savings and Metatec among others. He was proud to be a past president of Buckeye Boys Ranch and served as treasurer for numerous Clubs and Civic Associations. He was a proud member of the Black Cats Investors Inc. Since 1983 his "home away from home" has been in Jupiter, Florida. They lived in Jupiter Hills where they had many friends. Preceded in death by Melba Griffin (Aunt), Paul E. Bowen (father), Glendora Franklin (mother), Bruce and Peggy McDill, Beryl Pfahl, Betty Daily and Barbara Bowen (sisters-in-law), Doug Myers, Bill Pfahl (brothers-in-law) and Brett Pfahl (nephew). He is survived by his brother, Dave and his wife, Cloe; sister-in-law, Bobbe McDill Myers; brother-in-law, Jack Daily; children, Steve, Dave (Iris), Betsy (Jim Hampton) and Eric (Beth), all living in Columbus; 12 grand-children, Grant, Rick, Trey, Stevie, Brittany, Tyler, Barton, Davey, Sam, Evan, Bonnie and Angel; many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Sandy Eckelberry, Pam Ashby, Lisa Paul and all of the staff of Sunrise on the Scioto and Homereach Hospice and Vitas Hospice who helped care for Dad so compassionately. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012 at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., with Rev. James Long. Reception at Scioto Country Club.
