James (Jim) E. Cermak, 1946-2018

James (Jim) E. Cermak  was born Monday, November 11, 1946 in Martins Ferry, Ohio .

James E Cermak "Jim", age 71, of Worthington Ohio, passed into the arms of Jesus at the end of the day, October 6, 2018. He was home and surrounded by many family members whom he loved deeply. Jim served with the 11th Special Forces Group A, both as a Reservist and AGR for 22 years. Jim retired from Dublin City Schools in 2001, where he taught computer science. He enjoyed teaching, and prior to teaching in Dublin, taught math for Columbus City Schools, and River Valley Schools. After retirement, Jim continued teaching computer science at Columbus State Community College, trained poll workers for Franklin County Board of Elections, and served as a stadium usher at The Ohio State University football games.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; step parents; his brother, Linn; and an infant sister. He will be missed deeply, and is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, Mona Swartz (Chris); son, James (April); as well as his grandchildren Cayla Cermak (Ben Guay), Josh Cermak, CJ Swartz, Brandon Cermak (Kari), Tyler Cermak (Arica), KayLee Swartz, Zack Swartz, and Seth Blanton. Also surviving Jim are his brother George Cermak (Alison); step-brother Bobby DeVault; great-grandchildren Brandon Cermak, Jr., Cameron Cermak, and Laykin Cermak. He was looking forward to the birth of a fourth great-grandson in November. Many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as several great-nieces and great nephews survive.

Jim was a graduate of Adena Local High School, Wilmington College and The Ohio State University.

Jim was a member of Orange Friends Church in Lewis Center. He was a lifetime blood donor, and donated 375 units of blood to the American Red Cross over his lifetime.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 11:30 am at Orange Friends Church, 3460 East Orange Road, Lewis Center Ohio. Pastor Zachary Bohler will officiate. Family will receive friends preceding the service beginning at 10:00 am. Private interment will take place at a later time.
