Roger Louis Dumaree, age 85, of Howard, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at his home. He was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Cleo and Betty (Fry) Dumaree. He was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University, receiving his BS & MA. A long time well-known and respected educator, his moniker was "Mr. Columbus Public Schools". He served for over 31 years at Columbus Public Schools as a Teacher; Principal at Johnson Park Middle School; South, Eastmoor, and Mifflin High Schools; and as an Administrator. He continued his career at the Franklin County Juvenile Court System as the Director for the Unruly Youth Division Program. He was a member and advocate for the PTA and Booster Clubs; served as Deacon at Overbrook Presbyterian Church; was on the Board and several committees for the Apple Valley Property Owners Association; a member of Kiwanis for over 40 years; volunteered at Interchurch Social Services, Red Cross, and the Sun Coast Humane Society in Venice, Florida. Roger worked with and managed the Football Parking program at The Ohio State University for 40 years. He was also a member and huge supporter of the Knox County Ohio State University Alumni Association. Roger never knew a stranger and would greet all with a twinkle in his eye and a bit of humor, which was shared with his contagious laughter. He loved and was loved by so many friends, neighbors, his staff, and his students and of course his heart…his family. But Roger's two greatest loves were the OSU Buckeyes and Jazz/Big Band music. The family would like to thank Roger's neighbors "earth angels", Nancy and Jim Robinson who were there for Roger at any time of day. And to his lady friend Betsy Nichols, who has enjoyed adventures with him over the last several years. Roger is survived by his daughters, Lynda Williams of Galena, Michelle (Dustin) Givens of Ashley; his son Roger (Lisa) Dumaree of Camarillo, CA; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and his sister Diana Boquist of Basking Ridge, NJ. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Elizabeth Dumaree and his grandson Ryan Williams. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Roger’s name, may be made to: Knox County Foundation - with a check Memo - "for OSU Scholarship Fund", 101 East Gambier St, P.O. Box 309, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family plans to announce a celebration of life service in the Spring or Summer of 2022.
