Fisher Mary Alice Bucher Fisher, born 1937, died Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Westminster Thurber. She is survived by many cousins and friends as well as her sister-in-law, Betsy Bucher of Michigan; step- daughter, Trish Fisher Anderson and her husband, Major Roger Anderson; step-grandsons, Patrick and Sawyer of Arkansas; and her close friend, Charley Meng. She is preceded in death by her parents Prof. Paul and Florence Burington Bucher and her half-brother Ted Bucher. She was retired from Battelle; freelance editor listed in Literary Market Place and was a published writer. Mary graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.A. cum laude in English and M.A. in Journalism; long time employee of the Ohio State University Press. Listed in Who's Who of American Women; member of Phi Beta Kappa, Association for Women in Communications (AWC) and their Columbus Matrix Foundation (scholarship coordinator), Society for Technical Communication (senior member), Society of Professional Journalists, National League of American Pen Women, Technical Communication Advisory Board of Columbus State Community College, American Mensa (former local membership chairperson), and Maize Manor United Methodist Church and the church sewing guild at Riverside Hospital. Co-founder of the former Buckeye Singles Council and originator of National Singles Week to promote a positive image of being single. Donations may be made in her memory to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Maize Manor United Methodist Church. Mary will be buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery next to her parents. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Westminster Thurber, 717 Neil Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43215 with a reception to follow.
