Nancy Jane Goorey age 93, born on May 8, 1922 in Davenport, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Riverside Hospital. Nancy grew up in Wooster, Ohio. She received her D.D.S. degree cum laude from the College of Dentistry, The Ohio State University in 1955. Completed a residency in anesthesiology at Ohio State University Hospitals. Nancy served as Director of Dental Hygiene for 17 years and as a College of Dentistry faculty member for more than 30 years. She retired as Assistant Dean and Professor Emeritus. Nancy was the first female president of the American Association of Dental Schools (renamed American Dental Education Association). Among her many honors, Nancy received the YWCA Woman of Achievement Award in 2000. She was the recipient of the Ohio Dental Association Achievement Award in 2002. Nancy was honored by Leadership Worthington in 1997 with the Leadership for a Lifetime Award. The Columbus Department of Health established the Nancy Goorey Volunteer of the Year Award in 1998 and in 1983 Nancy received the Distinguished Dentist Award, the Ohio Dental Association’s highest honor. She was a member and past-president of several professional and women’s service organizations. Preceded in death by father Dr. Edgar Miller, mother Glenna May Williams Miller, step-mother Dorothy Miller; brothers Dr. George H. (Bee) Miller and William E. Miller; and son Douglas George Miller. Survived by husband Dr. Louis Goorey; sister Barbara Ann (Paul) Jenkins; daughters Victoria Miller, Nickola E. Miller (Steven Schwartz), Lani (Larry) Singer, Susan (George) Petrak, Sharon (Brian) Starr; 8 grandchildren; sister-in-law Joyce Miller; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday, September 14, 2015 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085.
