Geraldine “Jerry” Stone Haywood passed away peacefully in Franklin, Tennessee on July 24, 2018 at the age of 98. Jerry was born in Pine Grove, West Virginia on May 20, 1920. She was preceded in death by her parents Hazel King and Burrell Frank Stone and her loving husband and best friend of 72 years, Jim. Jerry is survived by her children Cheryl Haywood, Joellen Jones (James), J. William Haywood (Lynn), and Sally Rains (John) . Her grandchildren are Jeffrey Jones (1978-2005), Jennifer Jones, Brett Haywood, Piper Haywood (Sam Baldwin), Sara Rains, and Kelly Rains.
After attending The Ohio State University, majoring in Speech and Theater, Jerry and Jim were married in 1944, settling in Worthington, Ohio from 1954 to 2010. In Worthington she was active member of the Worthington United Methodist Church, Women’s Club, Activity Club, and the Kilbourne Dance Club. Jerry was a loyal, dedicated and life long member of Chi-Omega Sorority. Jerry, Jim and eldest daughter, Cheryl relocated to middle Tennessee in 2010 to be near Sally’s family, attending Brentwood United Methodist Church.
Jerry will be remembered as a remarkable and loving wife, mother, “Nan Nan”, aunt, friend, and for her graciousness, generous style and hospitality.
A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel at Brentwood United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to the Hinsdale Humane Society to honor of the memory of grandson, Jeffrey H. Jones.
