HOFFMAN George J. Hoffman, age 83, died suddenly Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at home in Columbus. Born October 17, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Loverne Hoffman, George was the loving husband of Mary, his wife of 33 years. He is survived as well by step-daughter, Catherine Kenward of Taos, NM; step-son, Eric (Lisa) Rousculp of Worthington; step-grandchildren, and great-grandson. A graduate of the University of Chicago with a degree in philosophy, George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Information Specialist and Editor of the daily paper, The Front Line, he was cited by the Third Infantry Division for his "skill, initiative, and untiring devotion to duty," working under "inadequate operational facilities and despite frequent moving." George's Bronze Star for meritorious service states: His tireless effort had a beneficial effect on troop morale and combat efficiency. Columnist, broadcast news journalist, member of the Radio-TV News Directors Assoc., George's professional years were spent at major stations in Ohio and Michigan. With a strong intellect and an inquiring mind, George had a keen interest in domestic and world events and the human condition. He and Mary traveled extensively throughout the world. George loved the music of earlier jazz greats. There was a special place in his heart for animals, especially the cats and dogs of his life. Donations in his name may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society. There will be a private service in October at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
