John M. Kays, 90, of Storrs, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 in Storrs. He was born November 23, 1915 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Donald and Maude (Mallin) Kays. He receivedhis Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University in 1938 and his Master's degree from the University of Missouri in 1940. He then served in the US Army during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Mr. Kays taught at the University of Missouri for ten years and then was an Associate Professor of Animal Husbandry at the University of Connecticut from 1956 to1977. For many years he was a recognized judge of the American Horse Shows Association, judging American Saddlebreds, Arabians, Morgans and equitation at horse shows in 22 states from Maine to California. He is survived by a brother, Donald Kays of Newtonville, MA, a sister, Mary Lois Kays of Bridgeport and a nephew, Jeffrey Kays of Newtonville, MA. A memorial service will be held at a later time. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Worthington, Ohio. The Potter Funeral Home, Willimanitc assisted with arrangements.
