MADDOX Alfred D. Maddox, age 92, on Friday, June 23, 2000 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Active in Masonry, a 50 year, 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason and dedicated Shriner. Al was past president of the 14th Masonic District Officers Association and member of Grand Lodge Tellers Committee. Member and past Master of New England Lodge 4 F&AM. He was a member and past High Priest of Horace W. Wright Chapter 266 RAM, member and past Illustrious Master of Columbus Council 8 RSM, and member and past Commander of Mount Vernon Commandery 1 KT. Also a member of Achbar Grotto serving as cast director for many years for which he received the Achbar Service Award. He is the holder of the Scottish Rite Meritorious Service Award in recognition of his many years of service as Chairman of the cast makeup committee and Fraternal Relations Ambassador. After joining Aladdin temple in 1950, Al headed the ceremonial cast make-up unit for many years and received the Aladdin Service Award. He was also a member and past president of the Clown unit and member of the International Shrine Clown Association. A past president of the Worthington Shrine Club; charter member of the Kentucky Colonels and member of Columbus Court, Royal Order of Jesters 8. He was a honorary member of the Aladdin Past Masters and Brutal Brothers units. His make-up skills lead to honorary Shrine memberships in Dayton, Cleveland, Akron and Parkersburg, W.Va. Two time past patron of Worthington Chapter 287 OES. Member of International Order of DeMolay and holder of the DeMolay Legion of Honor and Distinguished Service Award. In addition, Al holds Distinguished Service Awards from the Grand Lodge of Ohio and Grand Commandery, Knights Templar. Al had been elected to receive his 33rd degree this September in Pittsburgh, however the degree was confirmed in special session in his hospital room on June 22. For many years, he used his make-up talent to help with the Parkview United Methodist Church's production of the Last Supper. He was retired from Railway Express Agency, a former real estate agent and a Army-Air Force veteran serving during WWII. Survived by nieces and nephews, Betty (Harold) Morman of Pickerington, Jack Maddox of Galloway, Oh. and Joeann (Vann) Jones of Elkton, Fla.; great nieces and nephews, Terry (Jennifer) Morman, Kristin (Gary) Kennedy, Donna Aftuck, Adam and Andrew Maddox; great-great nieces and nephews; and close friend, Ruth Snow. Preceded in death by wife Alice M. Maddox. Funeral service 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High Street (1/2 mile South of I-270) Chaplain Richard Westinghouse presiding. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday with Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Interment Walnut Grove Cemetery.
