McGAW Norma "Jean" McGaw, 84, of Upper Arlington, passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2011. She was born September 9, 1926 in Wooster, OH to the late Welker and Edith Smith, and spent much of her childhood at her fraternal grandparents' farm. Jean married her high-school sweetheart Gordon in 1945 and moved to Columbus, where they both attended Ohio State University. A long-time resident of Upper Arlington, Jean was also employed for many years at Lazarus Kingsdale. Jean was a devoted mother and caring grandmother, and enjoyed creating delicious meals for her family. A dedicated Ohio sports fan, Jean enjoyed trading tales with her grandsons about Woody Hayes, Johnny Bench, and Pete Rose. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband Gordon McGaw. Jean will be dearly missed by her loving children, Leigh (Dale) Rhine, Susan Weber, and Mitch McGaw; and her grandchildren, Dan and Kristen Rhine and Jason and Matt Weber. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care and compassion Jean received from the staff at Avia Senior Living in Upper Arlington. A private family burial will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Worthington, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jean's memory to Kobacker House.
