Myra E. Middleton, age 98, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999 at Kobacker House. She was a member of Worthington Presbyterian Church. Myra graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Home Economics and taught school for many years. She moved to Worthington in 1968 and became a member of Study Group years. She moved to Worthington in 1968 and became a member of Study Group 18 of the Worthington Historical Society. As President of the Worthington Seniors Club for 11 years, she was instrumental in having this group become part of the Worthington Park and Recreation Department. She was a strong advocate for increased opportunities for seniors and won several awards for her community service. She was named to the Ohio Senior Citizen Hall of Fame in 1976 and received the 1978 Jaycees Citizen of the Year and the 1987 Service to Mankind Awards. Myra was preceded in death by her husband Newell. She is survived by 4 children and their families, Barb and Dick Chakroff of Worthington, Dave and Ann Middleton of NJ, Betts and Bill Slim of PA, Ron Middleton and his wife, Jackie Mitchell of JN; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 15 at 4:30 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverends Phil Hazelton and Gene Folden. Friends are invited to a buffet following at the Griswold Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kobacker House, 3595 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, OH 43214 or to the Middleton Memorial Fund at the Griswold Senior Center, 777 High St. Worthington OH 43085.
