William B. Price, born in Lakewood, Ohio, January 28, 1925, died of congestive heart failure and pneumonia Friday, August 29, 2003 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1943 and joined the Army Air Corp. He graduated in 1950 from Ohio State University College of Natural Resources and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau. He received a master degree in Botany from Ohio University in 1954. He was employed by the Dept. of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife and Division of Parks as Ohio's first Chief Naturalist. He set up much of the early trail system in Ohio Parks and educated people about nature. After a year of teaching at Ohio University, he joined the Natural Resources Staff at Hocking College in 1969. He was proud of his students, many of whom kept in touch throughout his life. He retired from Hocking College in 1981. He was a member of Glouster Lodge #607 and a 32nd degree Mason of Valley of Columbus. He was a member of Murray City and Worthington Leasure Blackstone Post 239 American Legion, and social member of the VFW in Nelsonville, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Earleen" Price of Worthington; daughters, Carol Swindaman and friend Pascal Thauvin of Seattle, WA, and Marilyn (Philip) Norman of Worthington, Ohio; grandchildren, Price Philip, Philip Eric, and Riley Sunshine Norman, all who will miss Grandpa "WHOOPEE"; former wife, Lois S. Price of Columbus; Margaret's son, David Long of VT and daughter, Debbie Young of Stewart, Ohio; nephew, Bruce Bark of NV; and cousins, Audrene Linsey, Arlene Weiser; special friend, Charles "Chuck" Triplehorn of Columbus, Ohio. A dedicated longtime OSU Buckeye fan, he looked forward to every game. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle ways and being a friend to all. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Riverside Hospital ICU. AT his request, no service will be held. Donations in his honor can be made to Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources, Park and Recreation, Hocking College Natural Resource Dept., Nelsonville, Ohio.
