Nellie Elizabeth Bounds Russell, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and much more, transitioned at age 90 to her heavenly home on Monday, September 12, 2016. Nellie made Worthington, Ohio, her home when she married Paul Russell. She was employed by the Ohio State University Hospital as a lab technician until her retirement, after which she volunteered with the United Way for a number of years. As a faithful member of St Johns AME Church she served on the Steward Board, the Lay Organization, was Church Treasurer, and as a delegate to the Church Conference for many years. Nellie and son, Billy, were Buckeyes, thick and thin, and they cheered on the college team during football and basketball seasons while donning Buckeye garments and paraphernalia. As the horizon of 2016-17 football season arrives, it will be without one of OSU’s most avid fans. Nellie leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved son, Billy (Ygenia) Bounds of Oxon Hill, Maryland and a daughter Diana Russell and Diana’s daughter Kandi; four grandchildren, Brandy Bounds of Baltimore, Maryland, Ebony Bounds of Oxon Hill, Maryland; Rashawn Russell, Jehan Russell, and two precious great grandchildren, twins Amari and Amaya Foster, and Mr. Felix her cat. Nellie Russell was a very independent woman, but like all of us there existed times when she needed assistance. During those times, she reached out to her nephew Landon Harrison, whom like her beloved Billy, never disappointed her. In addition to these special loved ones, Nellie also leaves behind to mourn her loss of a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends Anne Marie Garraway and Walter Fluellen, and many many more. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday September 20th at 11:00am, at St. John AME Church, 7700 Crosswoods Dr. Columbus, Ohio, 43235, where visitation will be held an hour prior from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements made by RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rutherfordfuneralhome.com.
