Douglas R. Trail, 83, of Dublin, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012. He was born November 6, 1928 in Bristol Connecticut to the late Archibald and Alma Trail. He was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend. He had a dry, witty sense of humor that endeared him to all he knew.

Doug was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University where he earned a Juris Doctorate degree in 1952. Doug began his career as Counsel to the Ohio Secretary of State where he helped oversee state records, elections and voting procedures. Following that, he moved to a position as Vice President and Chief Counsel for the Ohio Manufacturing Association (OMA). He was the “Face of the OMA” in the Ohio Legislature for over 20 years, representing the OMA and the interests of their members. Later in his career he was a Senior Attorney with Jones Day Revis and Pogue. In 1996 he was elected Chairman of the Industrial Commission of Ohio and in 1998 was appointed Chairman of the Ohio Building Authority by then Governor George Voinovich. He served in that position until his retirement in 2007.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Margaret (Peggy) Trail; sons, Christopher (Judy) Trail of Johnstown, Ohio; Steven (Kimberly) Trail of Granger, Indiana; and David (Karen) Trail of Kalamazoo, Michigan; 6 adoring grandchildren Andrew, Jamie, Valerie, Lauren, Vanessa and Samantha; brother Stanley M. Trail of DeKalb, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Friendship Village of Dublin, 6000 Riverside Drive, Dublin, Ohio, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doug’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
