John Albert Whieldon, MD of 6559 Olentangy River Road, Worthington. Died Sunday, April 16,1978, at his home, as a result of a tractor accident. Born November 1, 1914 in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada, of parents who were and remained American citizens. His practice was in Psychiatry, Electroencephalography for the past 26 years. He was a member of Worthington Seventh Day Adventist Church. A graduate of Pacific Union College and the School of Medicine at Loma Linda University in Calif., receiving his MD in 1942. He was in general private practice and Medical Director of the Valdez Community Hospital in Alaska from 1945-1947. Veteran WW II 1st Lt. Medical Corps from 1944-1947. Following internship at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, he served as a Assistant Resident in Psychiatry at Langley-Porter Clinic in San Francisco and as a Fellow in Neuropathology in the Cahal Laboratory under C.E. Courville, MD in Los Angeles. Served a two year residency in Psychiatry at Harding Hospital during 1950-1952. Among his Seven Research and university teaching appointments are: Research Fellow and Instructor at Fellow in Neurophysiology at Cal Tech, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry Clinic at Children's Hospital in Columbus. He was a member of 8 scientific societies, serving as Central Ohio Neuropsychiatric Assoc. He was honored as Man of the Year in 1976 by the Central Ohio Neuropsychiatric Assoc., of which he was also a Past President. A widely published author and the Coller Memorial Lecturer un 1968 at OSU. He was active in conservation efforts of the Olentangy River and other natural areas. He was on the staff of many hospitals throughout Ohio, where he provided EEG services. An accomplished photographer with showings and prizes at the Columbus Gallery of Finer Arts. He assembled one of the largest private collections of Whieldon-ware English Pottery shown in the art gallery. Survived by wife Violet G. Whieldon; children Thomas Whieldon, Moss Landing, Calif., Mrs. Annalee Carlson, Mansfield, Oh., & Charles Whieldon, Peoria, Ill.; 4 grandchildren Laura, Jonathan, Julie, & Esther; sister Mary Alyce Mountain. His family remembers him as a lover of the beautiful things in life from an Ohio spring flower to the heights of the High Sierras. He is remembered by many as a gracious host, a faithful friend and a wise counselor. Of him it can be said, he showed the way. Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday at the Rutherford-Corbin Chapel, 515 High Street, Worthington. Memorial service at the Worthington Seventh Day Adventist Church 5:30 pm, Thursday.
