During the City of Worthington's Bicentennial Celebration (October 2002 - October 2003) banners were displayed along High Street and Granville Road in Old Worthington. The banners featured the Worthington Star, the official symbolof the City's Bicentennial. A contest was held in 2000 to solicit designs from Worthington area residents for the Bicentennial logo. The Worthington Star quilting design was selected as the winning entry. It was designed by Worthington area resident Joe McAnarney. The slogan "Building the Future with Pioneering Spirit", submitted in an entry from Nina Smith, was incorporated into the Bicentennial logo.
