The first of Worthington's Bicentennial signature events was a Founders Day Festival held in October, 2002. The opening ceremonies featured the debut of the Official Bicentennial Songs, "The Bells of Worthington" and "On the Village Green", written by composer and Worthington native Eric Gnezda. Gnezda performed the songs on stage at the Village Green, accompanied by violinist Arkadiy Gips and a chorus composed of Worthington school children, the Bicentennial Chorus and other community members.
