Winfield Pomeroy Vest (b. 1852, d. 1921) came to Worthington from Morgan County, Ohio with his wife Cornelia Gillespie Vest, when he attended the Ohio Central Normal School to become a teacher in the mid-1870s. He is listed as a student in the school's 1877-78 catalogue. Vest was highly involved in Worthington’s school system, having taught school both near Flint (Slate Hill) and in Linworth, acted as principal of the high school, and served on the school board. The Vests lived at 91 East Granville Road and had four daughters (Kate Gloyd, Caroline Long, Cornelia Corbin and Bertha Vest) and one son (Samuel Winfield Vest, who died of diptheria at age 10).
