This draft letter was written by Mary Johnson of Worthington, Ohio, presumably to John R. Worman of Zanesville, Ohio. Mary apologizes for an illness delaying her response to his previous letter of May 7th. Mary had developed a fever some days prior to receiving his letter. She wishes to tell him of her journey, but feels like she might miss something. She defers to tell him about most of her journey until his expected visit. Until then, she describes the steamboat journey from Pittsburgh to Portsmouth and the beautiful scenery.
Mary was daughter of one of Worthington's founders, Orange Johnson and wife Achsa (Maynard) Johnson. She married Francis Sessions on August 18, 1847. The Sessions were interested in promoting art and art instruction in Columbus. The Sessions art collection formed a basis for the Columbus Museum of Art collection.
John R. Worman and Mary Johnson met on a stagecoach as she and her father were traveling back to Worthington from a trip to Washington. They corresponded in 1841 and 1842.
It covers the city Worthington.
