This price list and order blank for Worthington Foods includes descriptions of thirteen no-meat protein food products available by mail order in 1950. One of the products listed is the "Meatless Wiener". Although the product was a favorite among customers the product name was challenged by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, contending that by definition there was no such thing as a meatless wiener. The product name was subsequently changed to Veja-Links. Following the name change, the product was seized from a retail store by the State of Michigan on account of the state's meat products law requiring that any food product in the shape of a wiener must contain a certain percentage of meat. Worthington Foods took the issue to court and lost at first. Worthington Foods ultimately won on appeal establishing a precedent, after providing evidence that other food products having no relation to meat had been packed in link form, such as candy, cheese, cookies and dough.
