The open house and dedication ceremony of the Worthington Natatorium was held on February 18, 1973. The indoor swimming pool was dedicated to the youth of Worthington in memory of David Burt and Charles Shupe. Burt and Shupe, members of the Worthington High School swim team, were victims of a traffic accident that took their lives in 1966. A plaque dedicated to their memory was placed near the entrance of the facility. The open house, sponsored by Swiminc, the Cardinal Boosters, and Worthington Swim Boosters featured swim team races, scuba diving demonstrations, and high diving exhibitions.
