Background

Pictured in this color photo are (left to right) World War II veterans Herbert McGee and Moses Eldridge. They are shown standing in front of a blue convertible car with a sign on the passenger door stating “Moses W. Eldridge.” The veterans were being honored as part of Worthington’s Memorial Day Parade in 2017, when McGee was 98 and Eldridge was 100. They and other World War II veterans were recognized for their service. 

McGee served his country in combat during World War II from 1942 to 1946 as a Private First Class, U.S. Army, The 93rd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

Eldridge was born on April 17, 1917 in Wilcox, West Virginia. At the time of his passing on September 4, 2025, he was believed to be the oldest living veteran in Ohio at age 108. Eldridge served in the 131st Engineers Regiment as a water purifier in New Guinea, Luzon and the Asian Pacific Theatre.
