Background

This undated color photograph shows World War II veteran Herbert McGee before the Pacific Pavilion at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. He is seated on a mobility scooter in front of a large fountain inscribed with “Southwest Pacific” and “Guadalcanal” and the names of other combat theaters in World War II. 

McGee served his country in combat during World War II from 1942 to 1946 as a Private First Class, U.S. Army, The 93rd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
