BLAKE George C. Blake, age 86, went home to the Lord Friday, January 28, 2011; he was born January 21, 1925. A U.S. Army veteran, he served his country in WWII as a member of the 761st Tank Battalion, was awarded the Silver Star, and was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame on May 28, 2008. A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of St. Mark's Lodge No. 7, F&AM; and Alla Baba Temple No. 53. He was also a member of the Worthington Chapter of the VFW. He was a truck driver by trade. George was predeceased by his father George, mother Martha, brothers Henry and Harold, daughter Nancy and step-daughter Barbara Allen. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Florence (Ms. B); children, George, Jr. (Alice), Russ (Lorna), Ronald, Arlene; and step-son, Dwight Allen; a sister, Mary (Bud) Walker, sisters-in-law, Della Blake and Inez Allen of Dayton, OH; mother of his children, Rachel; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grand-children, and four great-great-grand-children, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011 in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long St., Columbus, OH 43203. Pastor Anthony Chatman, officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary Wednesday 1 p.m. until the start of service. Interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice.
