Pictured in this color photograph are, left to right, Alan Osborne, Marian Stearnes, Rachel Alexander and an unidentified library volunteer in the fireplace area at the Old Worthington Library. They are gathered for Alexander's wedding, which took place that evening, May 8, 1982. Osborne, Stearnes and the volunteer are seated in upholstered chairs, and Alexander stands, talking to them. The dress she wears is Osborne's aunt's graduation dress from 1905. Visible behind the group is a harpsichord, the fireplace and shelves of books on the wall.
At the time, the Old Worthington Library was the only location of Worthington Libraries. Alexander's wedding to Bob Foulk took place that evening after the library closed, with food provided by staff and Worthington mayor Lawrence Braun serving as officiant.
Alexander worked for Worthington Libraries from 1976 to 1985, and again from 1997 to 2008; during that time she served many roles, including community services librarian, children’s librarian, youth services manager and youth services materials selector.
Alan Osborne was a professor of mathematics education at The Ohio State University, and married to librarian Jo Osborne, a children's librarian at Worthington Libraries from 1979 until her death at age 59 in 1995. The Jo Osborne Award for Humor in Children's Literature was established in 1996 to honor her commitment to bringing children, books and humor together.
Stearnes served as a nurse in World War I, and had attended school at Western Reserve University, the precursor to Case Western Reserve University. The volunteer pictured delivered books to Stearnes as part of the library's homebound program.
