This photograph features Fondelia Ruth Griswold, wife of Worthington Franklin Griswold (b. 1842, d. 1912) at age 29. The following was printed in the July 10th, 1930 Worthington News at the time of her death: "She was born January 30th, 1843 in Liepsic, Delaware, one of four children. Her parents were the Rev. Peter S. and Sarah Cannon Ruth. She passed her young girlhood in Philadelphia, Dover and in western New York in different parishes of her fathers work. She received a private education under the direction of her father begun at the age of four when she learned to read. Her first reader was Runyan’s Pilgrims’ Progress. She came to Worthington with her family in October 1859 and was a resident of the village during the remainder of her life. She was married to Worthington F. Griswold, son of Gen. George H. Griswold on May 21st, 1863. To them fourteen children were born of whom eleven survive her."

In another newspaper in her daughter Ruth's scrapbook, it is written, "Mrs. Griswold was a woman of rare mental ability....She began the study of Latin at the age of 6 and Greek at 10. She was well drilled in Greek, Latin, French and had some knowledge of Hebrew. This training developed in her a love of the best in literature and an open and tolerant mind to present day tendencies and developments. She was an authority of Bible history and Bible literature."
