This is an Evening Street kindergarten student's report card for the 1961-1962 school year. Although the Evening Street Elementary School building was not built until 1963, students living in specified areas of the school district attended school in overflow classrooms and were designated as Evening Street School students. In 1960 the Evening Street parent group, which was combined with the Worthington Elementary PTA formed a separate Evening Street PTA. Plans were in the works to build a new high school football field west of Worthington High School and to locate a new Evening Street Elementary School on the north end of the old football field. From 1951 to 1960 the Worthington school system had an increase in the student body at the rate of 11.7 percent each year (from 1,711 in 1951 to 3,711 in 1960, a gain of exactly 2000). Church rooms and rooms in the Packard Annex were used to accommodate the increased number of classrooms necessary. Ten church classrooms were needed to fill the demand during the 1961-1962 school year. Over 300 students attended class in rented church rooms and basement school rooms not designated for classroom use. Area churches where rooms were rented include Linworth Methodist, St. John's Episcopal Church, and Worthington Presbyterian. Most Evening Street students attended class in the Packard Annex, which was the Worthington Junior High School at the time.
