This photograph of Evelyn Conkle Gilbert (1901-2000) was taken at her 95th birthday celebration in August of 1996. Born in Bellevue, Ohio, Evelyn moved to Worthington with the Conkle family as a small child. She attended school at Ms. Eldridge's School and later graduated from Worthington High School. After teaching briefly at Worthington Schools in the early 1920s to pay for her education at Ohio State University, Evelyn moved to the Cleveland area where she taught for three decades. In 1958, Evelyn moved back to Worthington and married John Griswold Gilbert. Mrs. Gilbert was involved in numerous social activities in Worthington, including being very active with the Worthington Historical Society.
