This is a receipt for the payment of taxes on three lots that were purchased from James Allen by Orange Johnson in 1817. According to "Scioto Company Descendants: Genealogies of the Original Proprietors of Worthington, Ohio" by Virginia Evans McCormick, Ph.D., "James owned land in the Worthington area for several years and in 1814 bought the Buttles home with the intention of moving west. He visited Worthington on business but changed his mind about moving and sold his property to Orange Johnson two years later."
Orange Johnson (b. February 7, 1790 - d. November 28, 1876), was a comb maker by trade from Connecticut. Johnson migrated to Ohio in 1814, attracted to the Worthington Manufacturing Company, friends and family.
It covers the city Worthington.
